Philips 462A radio (Techniek Radio/TV)

Hi. I have an unusual Philips 462A tube radio, which is marked as that number and letter on the chassis, but instead of a mains transformer it has a ballast resistor for the tube filaments (U series). Did Philips make variations on the 462A radio, or has it been modified in the past by someone (I wonder)? I was going to dispose of it (initially), but I decided to change my mind. It is missing its glass dial and back card, but I am sure that I can get replacements somewhere?
Thanks
Mike Horne

In your case the 462A should be a 462U but I do not know of it's existance...
The U stands for a radio without transformer.

A dial and backing might be available at Ben Dijkmans' site: www.bendijkman.nl

Goodluck with your "special" :-)

Could you post a few pictures and the tube line-up?

Also, could you post a detail picture in which the model number plate or stamp on the chassis is readable? Also, I'm not convinced 462A is the full model number.

Hi Mike,

This is certainly a unusual 462A. Most likely a radioset for another market than mainland Europe. I only know the 462A with a mains transformer and E-series tubes.

A couple of photos are more than welcome. ;-)

Greetz,
Paul

Hello Paul & everyone. I do not have access to uploading photos yet, my home computer is out of action, so I am using the ones in my local public library.
I am sure that there is no mains tx, just a dropper resistor for the filaments. I asked the U.K Forum, but even they did not recognise the variation.
The cord drive for the tuning is in a mess at present.
I may go to the Leamington Spa (U.K) exposition next year and see if there is a replacement back panel & glass dial on offer.
Regards
Mike
