Check all coupling and decoupling capacitors in the amplifier stage. Especially electrolytic capacitors are suspect of course, but also paper capacitors of 100 nF and upwards are suspect as similar ones in black compound mouldings. When you have replaced all faulty capacitors the radio should expose a warm bass-sound.
