GS10D Argon gevulde dekatron problemen (Algemeen)
Hello Martin,
As I understand the process going on inside these fast Dekatrons is not fully understood.
Well, in my opinion the white ones must have air in them. So I expect
a mechanical damage somewhere in the tube. I've seen normal tubes which were in
freezing temperatures. Sometimes this breaks the glass at the metal to glass transition.
The dekatrons I had in the first place have been in these freezing temperatures.
But I can't see any damage on or in the dekatrons...
Somehow I've got the feeling that it might be a chemical reaction or maybe
the glass to wire junction is not good enough to keep the Argon inside...
I have several of the GC10D and GS10D where the getter is silvery and just fine
but I also have a lot where the getter is white or missing (some do work perfectly
even if the getter is missing, but a lot less work when the getter is white).
My experience is about the same. The white ones are dead. The ones which
have just a disappeared getter often work. I had about almost 10 GS10D
tubes but only two worked...
You can contact Dr Jonathan (Jon) Ellis over at the Neonixie-L:
NeoNixie-L Google forumforum,
or contact me and I will ask him if he can contact you directly as I know
that he has looked into this problem in a deeper level than I have.
Thanks! I will try to contact him. I will also sent you an PM. I've been reading
on that forum and it seems to be a common problem for the -not neon- models.
Regards, Roland
