Philips Holland was the originator and pioneer of valve radio sets in Europe from the beginning.

Thus, I wish to know according to the experts here on this forum,

1) Which radio set model# from Philips Holland is the best constructed set according to you? If it is more than 1 set, you can list them. If possible photo picture please.

2) Also What are the specialties inside that radio set for which you say it is the best? i.e tuned RF, push-pull, bandspread bands etc.

Pictures will also help me understand better.

It is always a very personal opinion.
As always it stands with a very good (technical) restoration.
And a SET like this in a good setup in the room (the advantage is
the separate speakers, which is only logic of course).
Succes.

If it comes to a (large) table model (kind of cliché) :

By the way, the BX653A is an excellent radio (1955) and still easy to find. Bi-ampli.
An undervalued radio because it was and is so common.

This may sound somewhat blunt, Mr. *****
But answering your question is rather complicated. There is no such definition as "the best set" neither for Philips nor for any other make.
It all depends upon the personal wishes and expectations of the user. Anyway, you did not mention from what era the set should be; do you wish a really vintage one or from the end of the sixties?
Hoping you understand what I mean

The Philips set should be preferably a valve radio set from its inception till the time they made valve sets.

Again, it has to be the best set from the view of the forum thread reader and nothing much.

Philips Holland was the originator and pioneer of valve radio sets in Europe from the beginning.

One of the very best radio sets from the beginning of the Philips radio production is the Philips 2511. It is exceptional well constructed and features a cascade of 2 h.f. amplifiers plus AVC. The masterpiece of this set is the 3-fold precision tuning capacitor, in combination with three high-quality h.f. coils. This construction delivers not only a high sensitivity, but also an optimal selectivity.

Such a set is not lightweight, it weights 22 kg without the loudspreker.

This set was sold all over the world, and was an immediate succes. It was the start of the international expansion of the Philips brand. More then 120.000 sets were produced. The Philips 2511 was introduced in 1928.

The B8X52A was sold in Holland, but it is of German design and manufacture.

To anticipate answers stating something like "but the X in the type number surely means Holland, doesn't it?" I'll explain a bit.

It does indeed mean Holland, but only that it was specified by the Dutch commercial department. As a rule of thumb, sets were often designed and manufactured in the same country as where the commercial specification was made up, but certainly not always.

In this case, the Wetzlar, Germany factory adapted an existing chassis as used amongst others in the B7D52A and B8D51A to the Dutch specifications and produced the B8X52A.

There is not an easy answer.

You mention "Pionier" versions.

So take a period of construction and look at models and their exclusif construction.
Is that a revolutionairy design?
That in relation to other makers in that period?

The mentioned 2511 is in relation to that models of that year the best buy.
The mentioned B6X62A(1957){pre. is the BX642A-1955] is just a rebuild BX653A (1955) only the idea of seperate loudspreakers instead of build in.
And compair that with fi. a Grundig 9060W(1955) with its 6 speaker design of 12W power output.

Then mark that there where better radio's but fi. a very cheap radio
could also be a best performer for its construction.
That is also an achievment.

Build the best radio with just a few components.

Also the radio with the most amount of "special effects" isn't nessesairy the best performer.

So define your search.
Best circuit design, most revolutionairy design, tube construction, best reception, best quality sound, mechanical innovation (fi. the Monoknop out of 1935 Phlips series).
etc.
Then you want just the consumer marcet??
That according to the date of construction in relation to other designers.

Thank you Maurice for your detailed note.

When I raised the question on the forum, it was from consumer end perspective only and not from technicalities of the radio. i.e. my exact question would be:

Which Philips valve radio set that has best design, best reception, best quality sound?

I cannot comment on FM and LW bands on valve radio as I have never seen them in India.
What I am looking for best quality reception is on MW and SW bands, especially a Philips valve radio set that as "more SW bands" or "SW bandspread bands".

To me as a layman in radio technology I cannot think of a valve radio set that has entire SW on a single band. That is a bad design for sure but maybe technically a radio set from Germany may have single SW band and still get considered a best radio set. To me, SW must be split across several bands to give the listener the ease of tuning frequencies.
