John, het is absoluut niet aan te raden om de bijbehorende ijzerweerstand van vroege lampen als de EVE173, EVN171 en dergelijk te vervangen door een draadpotmeter. Wie de gloeidraden van zijn oude lampen liefheeft moet dat beslist achterwege laten. Voor de latere trioden kan dat uiteraard geen kwaad.

For using the EVE173 the right current limiter has to be placed in series!
The filaments were burned rather on a certain filament current then filament voltage. When the tubes were manufactured, they were tested and a specific current limiter was selected. The range of these current limiters was from 0.53 to 0.56 Amps in steps of 0.01 Amp.
This is indicated on the glass of the tube. For instance if you find the numbers 127796/6 that means that the serial number of the tube is 127796 and /6 will tell you that you should use a current limiter of 0.56 Amps in series.
