radio with buttons for program select above cabinet (Algemeen)

door Luci @, 02.05.2019, 08:25 (1814 dagen geleden)

Greetings to all members !

Sorry for not writing in Dutch language.

I think someone could help me to find an old model radio which I've seen long time ago. I really don't remember what company made this old radio, maybe Philips.

It was a model with a lot of buttons above the cabinet. It seems that all that buttons serves to select the programs. I guess programs were memorized mechanically.
If somebody have ever seen something like this please tell me the model.

I wish you all the best.

Luci

Dear Piet,
Thank you for fast answering.

It was a very old radio. The buttons were on the upper horizontal side.
There were many buttons, like 20 , arranged something similar to an old typing machine (not really but similar).

Best regards.
Luci

Please make a sketch from you memory, and place it as an image here.

Go to the site www.nvhr.nl
at the left side chose SCHEMA'S
In the table click SOORT and select OMROEPONTVANGER
Click ZOEKEN
After a while, all radio schematic diagrams are listed, including photographs.
Simply scroll down and with a little bit of luck, you'll find your radio.

I tried to remember the design.
But first I seen it in 1974 (I was a child) then maybe in 1985-1990 (still young).
I made a mix of a radio and an old typing machine.[image]

Of course it was different...but this is best I can remember. For sure was a nice looking radio.

What seems to be interesting was that pressing a button one can select a station (the owner said but never checked by myself). And the radio was parked on a tall cabinet...no chance to touch it.
I think was some mechanical memory at that time because radio was pretty old.
Anyway, a lot of buttons was above the cabinet.

This radio is an AGA from the fifties. Perhaps your looking for a motorized transistor radio?

Dear Paul
It was a stationary radio.
I can not remember how it looks precisely ...just a lot of buttons above.
And it was brown. Sure had a dial in front.
If i see it now i would know if is what i saw 40 years ago.

But searching the net i found nothing like that radio.
Best regards. Thank you .

Hello Luci,

What country are you from? Maybe it will help to find the radio you search.
Of course, it could be an imported brand.

Philips never made any model with preselect or motorized tuning pushbuttons above the stations scale (only below the glass dial), Erres did in 1938 and Aetherkruiser also made a model based on Erres technology with pushbuttons above the scale.

Was it a upright case model radio? taller case dan it was wide?

Because you write in English, the first model radio that came in my mind was the Ekco PB515 radio from 1939 with motorized preselect stations via pushbuttons.

Dear Jeroen,
The radio itself was not tall. The ratio of width and height was similar to what I showed.
Maybe a little taller.
(Well, the radio was above on a taller furniture so I did not reach it to play with.)

When I saw the first one (maybe 1974) I was to little to dare to ask more. But I understand what was about because I was so passionate about radios.
When I was "older" in 1990 I was ..(..well I guess also shy) to ask about the second I've seen but I noticed it was like the one seen in 1974.

This is the story. Now is nice to remember about old but impressive technology.
And I appreciate all effort of members who tried to help me.

Well, let's say this kind of radios was not produced in my country but were imported.
Although a division of PHILIPS was here since 1920.

All my efforts to find a picture was for no avail.

Best regards.
If I'll ever found the model I'll let everybody know.

Dear Luci,

Maybe I overlooked it, but in what country are you? This may be relevant regarding exports.

Philco has made many radios with push buttons at the top.
Maybe you can find the radio in the gallery.
