Philips 834A repair advice required

Geschreven door Mike Horne op 19. Jun 2005 22:50:27:

Hi. I am working on a Philips 834A "Superinductance" radio, which I have slowly been able to gain parts for, including the Mullard valves. The rotary wirewound element has now been replaced (1,960 ohms)and is o.k. Most of the caps have been replaced, and most of the original resistors seem to be ok. I have had to replace some of the resistors that were out of tolerance with new colour coded carbon types. There is h.t (320volts)and there is a noise when the grid of the audio pre-amp tube is touched, but no signals can be heard from the radio. The actual h.t should be more like 200volts. The tubes have been tested by the suppliers, and have found to be o.k.
I am more used to working on superhets myself, and I have not worked on "straight" or t.r.f sets before. I am not sure if pevious repairers have "had a go" at this set in the past. Can these superinductance coils that were used in these designs of sets be of a problem. It looks quite a simple radio circuit, and surely there can not be much to go wrong. Can anyone that has worked on these nice looking radios give some advice , please?
Best regards
Mike Horne
