Hello,

The grill was not lacquered but originally chemically patinated and that is why you should never polish it. The surface becomes glossy and
brass coloured and the loudspreaker will loose a lot of its value......

If you wish to restore the loudspraker and make it work again you have to check the magnetic coil which is mounted in the driver.
With an AVOmeter the resistance of the coil should be aprox. 2000 Ohms.
If the coil is interrupted you will have to rewind it........... Good luck
