Hi. I have managed to make some progress with the mechanical problem. The metal rod that fits in to the side of the under chassis (near the tuner knob)had come adrift from where it should be, the long piece fitted on the spindle on the push button frame, the ratchet end fitted through a hole in the u.k.w tuner button shaft. This stopped the a.m tuner pointer moving at the same time as the u.k.w pointer (when switched to the latter band).
Still no u.k.w hiss noise yet.
